Focus films & Photography Society
Objectives, Events and Achievements
FOCUS is the film and photography society of Ramjas College, University of Delhi. Established in 2012, it was an initiative to help students interested in photography to improve their skills and to create a conducive environment where like minded people can interact and share their views. This year we expanded our purview by introducing the film making section of the society.
The membership consists of highly talented photographers to students passionate about film-making and photography.
As part of our regular activities, we organized photo walks on alternate weekends to various places in Delhi. This year we covered Lodhi Garden, Connaught Place, and Chandni Chowk, amongst others. Focus also conducts workshops for its members, which is done by professional photographers and film makers. We had collaborated with Panasonic Experience Center and Delhi University Photographer’s Club in organizing two workshops related to photography. Saptarshi Roy, a filmmaker by profession, acquainted the members with various techniques related to film making.
We also held an exhibition in the month of October, themed ‘Colors of Delhi’, which was well received. Sundeep Bali and Neeraj Sharma were invited by the society to critique the work of the members.
Focus organizes its annual photography tour to places outside NCR under the technical guidance of a professional photographer. This year, a group of 18 members went to Jaipur in the last week of January, capturing the spice of the place.
The Focus fest is acknowledged to be one of the most interesting photography events of Delhi University and this year we reached new heights with FOCUS 2014. The events and competitions were held around the theme CONFLUENCE which encapsulated the essence of our special venture that celebrated the convergence of the cultures of India and Pakistan and the diversity that photography offers across borders. The events in the fest were ‘Captured, online photography competition’, ‘Click It, on the spot photography competition’, ‘Chal Chitra, film making competition’, a photography workshop by Future Forward and talks by imminent photographers like Chandan Gomes and Ajay Jain.
