Gender Forum

Gender Forum

"Student Societies and Clubs are central to the corporate life of the College. Membership of many Societies is automatic for students of the College"

Introduction

In the course of our working lives in Ramjas College and in the University in general, we have observed an urgent need to address a number of gender issues. We believe that if proactive interventions are made at the College level, we will be able to address conventional opinions and behaviours which are insensitive and demeaning to men and women.

We have established a Gender Forum in Ramjas College. The Forum has been conducting a variety of activities aimed at sensitising employees and students of the college and outside, so that studying and working at Ramjas may become a more enriching experience.

Gender Forum Activities:

  • Organizing plays that represent gender debates, and that generate such debates among student viewers
  • Conducting surveys to pinpoint problem areas
  • Generating debates and discussions about attitudes to women
  • Organising talks and seminars to help generate a layered and self-conscious awareness of gender among young people
  • Inviting experts and academics from a variety of disciplines who have discussed the gender biases that operate in textual, verbal and visual media
  • Showing films, both feature and documentary, that grapple with issues of gender, and following those film screenings with focused discussions conducted by cinema and gender experts
  • Organizing plays that represent gender debates, and that generate such debates among student viewers
